Toronto Shock: Newborn Discovered in Shoebox at Church, Mother Charged with Abandonment

Authorities in Toronto have pressed charges against the mother of a newborn baby found abandoned in a shoebox inside St. Monica’s Catholic Church just days before Christmas. Parishioners made the discovery on a Sunday morning, leading to the prompt intervention of the police. The baby girl, who was left in a shoebox on a church shelf, was swiftly taken to the hospital and determined to be in good health.

The church’s priest, Young-Sam-You, revealed that the infant was doing well and that her mother had been located. He emphasized the positive aspects of the situation, highlighting the baby’s health and safety, the mother receiving necessary assistance, and the potential for the child to find a loving adoptive family.

Toronto police confirmed that both the baby and her mother were receiving care. Subsequently, on January 5, the mother was charged with child abandonment and failing to provide necessities of life, endangering the child’s well-being. The mother’s identity has not been disclosed to protect the baby’s privacy.

Despite initial shock and concern among the church community, there is relief that the baby is safe and cared for. The investigation continues, with the baby’s well-being being closely monitored.
