A man recently made an unusual 911 call, adding a new contender for the oddest emergency reported.
The caller, an impatient driver, dialed 911 to complain about snow plows traveling too slowly on Highway 404, potentially causing him to be tardy for work.
York Regional Police posted the recording of the peculiar call on their Facebook page, expressing their astonishment at the situation.
The caller described his frustration, stating, “I’m on the 404 heading south, and the snow plows are moving at 20 kilometers per hour. If I’m late again, I’ll face repercussions at work.”
The 911 operator was taken aback by the complaint and struggled to respond effectively.
As the man’s agitation grew, he remarked, “It’s a mess here, ma’am. You should send an officer to deal with this.”
The operator calmly explained that she couldn’t control the speed of the snow plows.
York Regional Police used the incident as a reminder to the public that 911 should be reserved for life-threatening emergencies.
While emphasizing the importance of using the emergency line judiciously, YRP urged individuals to contact their employers rather than law enforcement in non-emergency situations.
