A man taken into custody following the tragic incident where a woman was reportedly pushed from a third-floor balcony in a Montreal apartment is set to make another court appearance on Wednesday, potentially facing a more serious charge.
Known as the “Woman pushed from third-floor balcony in Montreal has died” case, James Theramene from Laval is currently charged with aggravated assault in connection with the New Year’s Day death of Tadjan’ah Desir.
Identified by an anti-domestic violence organization, the 31-year-old accused and victim were former partners. Desir succumbed to her injuries in a hospital after allegedly being pushed off the balcony of the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve apartment building during an apparent confrontation witnessed by a bystander who alerted the police.
The SPVM has labeled this tragic incident as the first homicide of 2026 in the Montreal area, occurring at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Sainte-Catherine Street near Jeanne-d’Arc Avenue, leading to Theramene’s immediate arrest at the scene.
It is important to note that the allegations against Theramene have yet to be proven in court.
