Shortly after announcing his bid to lead the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) once again, Charles Milliard’s campaign has stirred controversy due to the use of questionable images in its promotional material.
According to a report by Le Journal de Montréal, Milliard’s campaign released launch videos on social media that featured images of Germany instead of Quebec.
In response to the report, a spokesperson for Milliard’s campaign, Earl Corales, admitted to the mistake, stating, “The videographer inadvertently used royalty-free images. We acknowledge this error and will take measures to prevent its recurrence.”
Milliard, who finished as the runner-up in last year’s leadership race, and Mario Roy, who placed third, have both thrown their hats into the ring to replace the recently departed leader, Pablo Rodriguez.
Rodriguez stepped down just before Christmas amid media scrutiny over the funding of his leadership campaign, having led the PLQ for a little over six months.
In an effort to uphold transparency and compliance with the Elections Act, PLQ appointed an ethics officer on Monday to oversee the upcoming leadership contest.
The leadership election is scheduled to take place at a convention on March 14.
