“Downtown Montreal Standoff Ends: Armed Suspect Arrested, Officers Sustain Minor Injuries”

A man in his twenties was apprehended by Montreal police after a confrontation involving a knife on Thursday morning.

According to the Montreal police (SPVM), a report came in at 7:45 a.m. regarding a young man wielding a knife at the intersection of Ste-Catherine and Berri Streets.

Upon arrival at the scene at the corner of Maisonneuve and Berri Streets, officers spotted the man who then attempted to flee upon seeing them.

The situation escalated as the man allegedly became hostile towards the officers, prompting them to deploy tasers and rubber bullets to subdue him.

Despite these efforts, the man’s aggression reportedly continued, leading to an officer firing a shot, which fortunately missed the suspect, as confirmed by SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.

Following the arrest, the man sustained minor injuries that are not life-threatening and was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment.

Brabant mentioned that as a result of the incident, two police vehicles were involved in a minor collision, resulting in injuries to the officers involved who were also taken to the hospital for evaluation.

As the investigation progresses, a security perimeter has been established along Ste-Catherine and Maisonneuve Streets between Berri and Saguenay Streets.
