“Two Arrested After Dramatic Escape Attempt at R.I.D.E. Checkpoint in Oshawa”

Two men, identified as Je’von Hamblett-Oxley, 29, and Lincoln Richards, 32, from Oshawa, were arrested by Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) following a dramatic incident during a police traffic stop. The event unfolded on Jan. 12 around 11 p.m. near Stevenson Road and Gibb Street during a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) campaign.

During the traffic stop, the driver was instructed by RIDE officers to pull over, but instead, he sped away at a high velocity. The fleeing vehicle collided with another motorist shortly after before defiantly striking two police cruisers in an attempt to evade law enforcement. The suspects then abandoned the vehicle, fleeing on foot.

Both Hamblett-Oxley and Richards are now facing various charges, including failing to stop for police and possession of a schedule I substance. Hamblett-Oxley remains in custody pending a bail hearing, while Richards has been released under an undertaking.
