Authorities have identified the man who was found with fatal gunshot wounds on a Surrey street on Tuesday afternoon. The Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded to a report of a man lying near a property on 176 Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the injured man who later succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over the case and has identified the victim as Baljinder “Binder” Singh Garcha, a 46-year-old well-known figure in Surrey’s business community. Garcha owned a wedding photography business, a limousine service, and a banquet hall.
According to Media Relations Officer Sukhi Dhesi, there is no apparent connection to the BC Gang Conflict, and investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward.
In a separate development, a burning vehicle was found near the scene. Authorities are asking witnesses of suspicious activities or individuals with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to contact investigators at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
IHIT is set to provide updates on its ongoing investigations in Abbotsford and Surrey during a media event scheduled for 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.
