Surrey Police Service is currently investigating an incident that occurred early on a Wednesday morning, involving a suspected extortion-related shooting at a local business. The incident took place at a restaurant located on King George Boulevard near 80 Avenue in the Newton neighbourhood of Surrey.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the shooting, although the business suffered damage. Police are at the scene conducting an investigation, with initial findings pointing towards a connection to ongoing extortion cases.
Images from the scene depict officers examining the area outside The Bhojan Sweets & Restaurant, with markers indicating where bullet casings were found in the parking lot. According to the Surrey Police Service, this incident marks the 16th extortion-related investigation since the beginning of the year, with three of them involving shootings.
Sgt. Tige Pollock acknowledged the concerns of residents in the neighbourhood, emphasizing that additional police resources have been deployed to address the situation. The police are collaborating with the province’s extortion task force, increasing officer numbers, and employing various strategies, both overt and covert, to tackle the issue.
