A heavy snowstorm has hit Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, causing significant disruptions for travelers on Thursday.
The winter weather has led to widespread cancellations and delays at airports across the region. At Billy Bishop Airport in downtown Toronto, all Air Canada flights have been grounded, while Porter Airlines has also cancelled some of its flights.
Toronto Pearson International Airport has not been spared either, with numerous flight cancellations and delays reported. The situation is so severe that almost every flight scheduled to depart before 1 p.m. on Thursday has faced delays.
FlightAware data reveals that Pearson is currently experiencing the worst delays globally, with outgoing flights being held back by an average of 53 minutes and inbound flights facing delays of over two hours and 40 minutes at their departure airports.
According to CityNews meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai, Toronto Pearson has already received 18 centimeters of snow by noon.
Air Canada has warned of winter weather-related delays in other Canadian cities like Montreal, Quebec City, and Ottawa.
Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights for any potential delays or cancellations before heading to the airport.
