The Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) leadership committee wants a leadership race that is ” transparent, engaging and commensurate with the importance of the moment”, following the announcement of Premier François Legault’s resignation last week.

In an open letter sent Sunday evening, signed by the president of the CAQ’s Youth Commission , William Denis, the party’s youth wing thanks Legault and shares its demands for the election of a new leader.

“This race must allow candidates to clearly present their ideas and priorities, to compare their proposals with respect and rigor, and to offer members the opportunity to choose, with full knowledge of the facts, the future of our political family,” the document reads.

“As Legault noted , despite these advances, Quebec still faces major challenges ,” the organization stressed , after mentioning progress on “both economic and identity-related” issues under Legault ‘s leadership .

The Commission states that it will share its vision for the future of the CAQ “soon” . ” A vision resolutely focused on the future, which will address with clarity the issues that affect our generation”, it wrote.

The rules for the CAQ leadership race are expected to be unveiled soon. It is already known that ministers wishing to run will have to resign from their positions for the sake of fairness.
