Charles Millard Gains Momentum with New High-Profile Endorsement in PLQ Leadership Battle

Charles Millard, a candidate for the Quebec Liberal leadership, recently secured an endorsement from Vaudreuil MNA Marie-Claude Nichols, making him the recipient of support from all Liberal caucus members except officers.

Expressing gratitude for the backing, Millard stated, “I am truly honored to have the support of colleagues who understand the needs of Quebecers. Marie-Claude Nichols joining our team further strengthens our shared vision of creating a prosperous Quebec that prioritizes the economy, services, and regional development.”

Among the limited contenders, only Mario Roy, a Beauce farmer, has shown interest in the leadership race. Despite this, Roy faces a significant debt from the previous race and needs to gather $15,000 in donations by Feb. 13. This challenge presents a formidable task for the 32-year-old, who lacks widespread recognition.

Given Roy’s financial hurdles, it is probable that he may not meet the qualifications for the race, potentially paving the way for Millard, a former leader of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce.

In the previous leadership contest, Millard secured the second position, while Roy finished in fifth place. The current vacancy arose following the resignation of Pablo Rodriguez in December amid accusations linked to his campaign funding.
