Montreal’s blue-collar workers are set to stage a one-day strike on February 4th, as announced by the Syndicat des cols bleus regroupés de Montréal. The strike is planned to kick off at 6 a.m. on the same day and run until 5:59 a.m. the following day.
Representing 6,600 members, Local 301 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which is affiliated with the FTQ, is leading the charge.
The primary bone of contention revolves around wages, with blue-collar workers expressing their reluctance to accept a decrease in their standard of living, especially given the City’s current financial difficulties.
The collective agreement expired at the end of 2024.
