A woman residing in Hamilton, Ontario, has recently been apprehended and accused of involvement in the disappearance of over $70,000 from a local charity’s funds.
Authorities have identified Viola Galamini, a 56-year-old individual, as the suspect who allegedly embezzled the money from a fundraising account associated with Rygiel Supports for Community Living, an organization dedicated to aiding individuals with developmental disabilities.
Reportedly, around $72,000 was unlawfully taken from the charity’s account between the years 2021 and 2023.
Following a thorough forensic examination, Galamini was arrested on January 22 and charged with multiple offenses, including criminal breach of trust, fraud exceeding $5,000, possession of unlawfully obtained property exceeding $5,000, and use of a forged document.
She has been granted release under specific conditions and is slated to appear in court in April 2026.
It is important to note that the accusations against Galamini have not yet been subjected to legal scrutiny.
Based on indications from a LinkedIn profile that is believed to be hers, Galamini had been employed as a community resource facilitator with the charity since 2001.
Despite attempts to reach out for comment, Galamini has not responded.
