Legault Government Rejects Montreal’s Immigration Proposal: What’s Next?

The Legault government denies requests for relaxed immigration rules in Montreal
Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada and City Hall officials in Montreal came together to call for special considerations for immigrant workers under the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ), which was recently terminated. They proposed a grandfather clause to allow those already in Quebec with temporary immigration permits to continue applying through the PEQ. However, Minister of Immigration Jean-François Roberge, during a CAQ caucus in Trois-Rivières, rejected the idea. While existing PEQ applications will be processed, no new applications will be accepted. Instead, applicants will need to apply through the Skilled Worker Selection Program (SWPSP).
