Rookie Shane Wright shines as Seattle Kraken continue winning streak against Toronto Maple Leafs. Wright scored two goals, propelling the Kraken to a 5-2 victory on Thursday night. Alongside Wright, Brandon Montour and Matty Beniers also found the net, contributing to Seattle’s fourth win in five games. Goalie Joey Daccord made 29 saves to secure the win.
On the other side, Nicholas Robertson and Morgan Rielly scored for the struggling Maple Leafs, who have now suffered six consecutive losses. Toronto’s goalie Anthony Stolarz, returning from injury, faced 17 shots and allowed an early goal.
Wright, the young talent drafted fourth overall in 2022, broke his scoring drought with a stellar performance, netting two crucial goals. Beniers also impressed, setting a franchise record with his 10th goal in a calendar month.
The game saw back-and-forth action, with Robertson equalizing for Toronto before Wright’s impressive backhand goal and Montour’s quick follow-up put Seattle ahead. Despite a power-play goal from Rielly, Wright’s wrist shot and Jared McCann’s empty-net goal sealed the Kraken’s victory.
The game was not without drama, as Berkly Catton, Seattle’s promising first-round pick in the 2024 draft, left the game after a hard hit to the head.
