Heroic Rescue: Nine Paddleboarders Saved from Peril in Howe Sound

A group of nine standup paddleboarders was safely rescued after getting stranded while paddling from Squamish to Porteau Cove along Howe Sound over the weekend.

According to Royal Marine Search and Rescue – Station 4 Squamish, the paddlers got stuck at Zorro Bay on Saturday due to bad weather conditions. Despite being experienced and properly equipped for winter paddling, they had to wait out the inclement weather for three hours with no success. Eventually, they wisely decided to seek help while there was still daylight.

Rescue crews promptly arrived and successfully rescued half of the group, transporting them to Porteau Cove before returning for the remaining paddlers. Royal Marine Search and Rescue is a dedicated volunteer organization with members stationed at over 30 locations across the B.C. coast and the Interior.

If anyone encounters difficulties while out on the water, they can reach out to the Royal Marine Search and Rescue team for assistance by using channel 16 on VHF marine radio or by dialing 911.
