Teens Charged with First-Degree Murder in Tragic Double Homicide on First Nations Land

Two teenagers were taken into custody last week in connection with a tragic incident involving a double homicide in a First Nations community in northern Quebec. The 17-year-old boys, whose identities are protected due to their age, are now facing first-degree murder charges. They have been accused of premeditated murder in the deaths of 30-year-old Bedabin Neeposh and 29-year-old Daniel Benac, who were discovered in a car with gunshot wounds last Wednesday night in the community located around 600 kilometers northwest of Quebec City.

Following their arrest by a tactical team in the Cree community of Mistissini, the teens were formally charged with the serious offenses over the weekend. They are set to appear in court today to address the charges brought against them. Authorities have indicated that the fatal shooting is believed to be connected to organized crime and potentially a settling of scores.

The loss of the two local men, Bedabin Neeposh and Daniel Benac, has deeply impacted the Cree Nation of Mistissini, leading to a brief lockdown order in the community as a response to the tragic events.
