McGill University is set to inaugurate its new Pandemic and Emergency Readiness Lab, PERL, on Tuesday, with the objective of enhancing societal preparedness for future health crises.
PERL assembles a diverse team of experts in science, public policy, and leadership to bolster readiness at both local and global levels. This interdisciplinary endeavor focuses on conducting research, fostering crisis leadership, and promoting collaboration across various sectors and geographical boundaries.
The establishment of the lab by McGill comes in acknowledgment of the escalating certainty of future global health emergencies and the pressing necessity for more cohesive, evidence-based responses.
The launch event will feature a series of panel discussions throughout the day, delving into the intricacies of governance and public policy challenges, such as the ramifications of autocratic rule, humanitarian emergencies, mass migrations, and the escalating menace posed by misinformation and disinformation during crisis situations.
