“Daycare Chaos: Vehicle Smashes into Fence, Ruptures Gas Line, Forcing Block Evacuation and Landing Driver in Hospital”

A Vancouver daycare was evacuated and a road closed after a vehicle crashed into the fence on West 33rd and Mackenzie early Wednesday morning. The incident caused damage to a gas line, prompting the evacuation of the entire block for safety reasons.

According to Vancouver Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Keith Stewart, the driver involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported. Emergency crews, including FortisBC repair teams, were dispatched to the site to address the damaged gas line.

The vehicle came to a stop just a few feet away from the daycare building, averting a more serious outcome. As repair work on the gas line commenced, the duration of the repairs remained uncertain.

Authorities are advising the public to avoid the area while the situation is being addressed. The road closure in the vicinity is expected to remain in effect until repairs are completed.
