An incident occurred in Surrey overnight where a train derailed, causing a spill of coal on the railway and its surroundings, as reported by Surrey Fire Service Assistant Fire Chief Darren Major to CityNews.
The exact amount of coal that was spilled remains unknown, and information regarding the incident is currently limited.
According to Major, the derailment took place during the night, prompting the arrival of fire crews to the location at Colebrook Road near 125A Avenue on Friday morning.
“Some trains derailed, leading to a spill, primarily involving coal,” Major explained.
It is uncertain whether the derailment has disrupted the passage of other trains in the area.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries stemming from the incident.
As of noon on Friday, Major confirmed that they are still at the site, actively addressing the situation and collaborating with the province and Metro Vancouver.
