“Paraglider Miraculously Saved After Harrowing Cliff Crash by North Shore Rescue Team”

A paraglider who crashed into a cliff was saved by the heroic efforts of North Shore Rescue (NSR) on Friday. The dramatic rescue mission, supported by Cowichan Search and Rescue (SAR), unfolded in a challenging terrain where the paraglider was found hanging unconscious in his harness after the impact against the rock wall.

The NSR commended a courageous hiker who witnessed the accident and climbed the cliff to provide vital first aid, potentially saving the paraglider’s life. The bystander’s selfless actions were acknowledged by the NSR, emphasizing the gratitude for his life-saving intervention.

Facing difficulties in reaching the paraglider, Cowichan SAR sought assistance from two experienced hoist technicians from the NSR, who swiftly arrived at the scene using Talon Helicopters. Employing a down-sloping ledge, the hoist technicians successfully rescued the injured paraglider, alongside the brave bystander who also required assistance.

The rescue operation, initiated at dusk, required the rescuers to utilize night vision goggles for the final phase, ensuring a safe and successful extraction. Following the rescue, the paraglider received medical attention from the B.C. Emergency Health Service upon landing, marking the conclusion of the harrowing yet ultimately successful mission.
