“Montreal Students Dive into History as Youth Stars’ ‘Black History School Tour’ Ignites Passion for Learning!”

The Youth Stars Black History School Tour stopped at Willingdon Elementary in NDG on Tuesday morning, engaging students in an immersive learning experience beyond textbooks. Led by media personality and youth advocate Malik Shaheed, the Montreal-based non-profit aims to empower youngsters and educate them about Black history.

Shaheed emphasized the importance of breaking stereotypes and showcasing Black individuals in a positive light. Through interactive storytelling, music, and open discussions, students delved into topics like pre-colonial Black history, hip hop culture, and the contributions of Black individuals. The tour seeks to combat misinformation, particularly prevalent on social media, and provide students with accurate historical knowledge.

Students like Aubriella Smeltzer and Khariya Spence expressed their enthusiasm for the tour, highlighting the significance of learning about Black history. Shaheed stressed the impact of early education on children, emphasizing the importance of positive reinforcement and open-mindedness for future success.

The engaging and informative nature of the tour left students inspired and eager to share their newfound knowledge with others. The upcoming stops include Solomon Schechter Academy, William Latter, James Lyng, and Centennial Regional High School.
