Negotiations between the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and the maintenance workers’ union have entered a crucial phase after nearly two years of discussions to renew their collective agreement. The union is now contemplating potential pressure tactics to break the deadlock, with President Bruno Jeannotte indicating that no concrete decisions have been made yet.
The previous strike, characterized by a refusal to work overtime in December and January, had a milder impact on commuters compared to past strikes. However, Jeannotte expressed a desire for negotiations to resume promptly in order to avoid similar disruptions. The contentious issue of outsourcing remains a key point of contention between the parties, who have engaged in a total of 138 negotiation sessions.
