Friends and Family Remember Abel Mwansa, a 12-year-old Victim of Tragic Shooting
Abel Mwansa, a 12-year-old boy remembered for his kindness and respect, was one of the victims in the recent shooting incident in Tumbler Ridge. His close friend, Lydia Mannion, shared fond memories of Abel and his family, who had relocated from Zambia to seek a better life in the small town of Tumbler Ridge in March 2023.
Described as bright and curious, Abel eagerly embraced his new surroundings in Canada, wanting to learn and experience everything this new land had to offer. Despite the stark differences from his home country, Zambia, Abel showed a keen interest in local customs and activities, such as hockey and skating.
Joining the local soccer club and immersing himself in the world of hockey, Abel aspired to become a referee on the ice. Understanding his limitations in skating proficiency compared to his peers, he aimed to excel in the role of a referee, displaying a deep understanding of the game’s rules and a passion for the sport.
At home, Abel was a responsible and caring older brother to his younger siblings, taking on tasks like feeding the baby, changing diapers, and assisting his mother so she could rest. His selfless nature extended beyond his family, as he was known for helping his friends and being a supportive presence in their lives.
Tragically, Abel’s life was cut short, leaving his family devastated and in disbelief. Amidst the sorrow, they find solace in their faith, believing that they will reunite with Abel one day.
