Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to unveil Canada’s new defense industrial strategy in Montreal today. This $6.6-billion plan, known as the “Buy Canadian” initiative, is geared towards boosting the country’s military production capabilities.
The strategy focuses on prioritizing the manufacturing of military equipment within Canada, increasing the percentage of defense contracts granted to local companies, and potentially creating up to 125,000 job opportunities within the defense industry over the next ten years.
Furthermore, the plan includes provisions to support the growth of small and medium-sized businesses in the defense sector and aims to attract more companies to participate in this critical industry.
After facing several delays, the highly anticipated roadmap was only recently revealed by an international news outlet over the weekend, ahead of its official release today in Montreal.
