For reasons yet to be determined, the woman in her 20s who was riding the snowmobile reportedly lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a tree.

“The two occupants were then ejected from the snowmobile,” explained Sergeant Béatrice Dorsainville, who is a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, but her passenger was not so fortunate. Seriously injured, she was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Sûreté du Québec is conducting an investigation to shed light on this event. At first glance, no criminal element appears to be involved.

This fatal snowmobile accident adds to the four others that occurred last Saturday in Quebec. Men aged 47, 49, and 57 lost their lives, as did a 47-year-old woman.
