Quebec Solidaire (QS) parliamentary leader Ruba Ghazal is defending her colleague Haroun Bouazzi, who claims that the National Assembly is a toxic environment where “lying, manipulation, and intimidation” are part of everyday life.
In a message published on Friday, Ghazal stated that the representative for Maurice-Richard is simply offering a critical perspective and expressing his personal feelings candidly.
The party’s male co-spokesperson, Sol Zanetti, said that Bouazzi did not have to apologize because his comments were about the political climate.
The CAQ government has called for Bouazzi’s expulsion from the QS parliamentary group.

In a television interview with LCN, the government’s parliamentary leader and Minister of Justice, Simon Jolin-Barrette, described Bouazzi as a repeat offender, since in 2024 he had sparked controversy by suggesting that he observed racism every day in Parliament.
According to Jolin-Barrette, Bouazzi criticizes all Quebecers who do not think like him and despises the elected members of the National Assembly, and therefore the Quebec people.
According to the minister, the only honorable thing for QS to do is to expel the member from the caucus.
It should be noted that Bouazzi’s controversial statements were published in the most recent edition of a neighborhood newspaper in his Montreal riding.
