Major fire at old Sud-Ouest church forces evacuation of nearby senior residence in Montreal

About 150 residents — including 73 at a senior home — were evacuated following a major fire at the old Saint-Paul church in Montreal’s Sud-Ouest borough early Monday morning.

According the Montreal Fire Department (SIM), a 911 call was made close to 2 a.m. about the five-alarm fire in the vacant building located near de l’Eglise Avenue and Laurendeau Street.

The fire had spread to a senior’s residence nearby. But, no one was injured.

Firefighters were still working at the scene.

Hydro-Québec website also showed electricity being turned off in the area closer to 7:30 a.m.
