The BC Prosecution Service has charged two teens with assault after a stabbing at a high school basketball game in Vancouver last month.
The Vancouver Police Department began investigating after a fight broke out after a game between host Eric Hamber Secondary and Killarney Secondary schools on Feb. 2.
An 18-year-old boy suffered a stabbing in the arm during the fight. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Shortly after, 1130 NewsRadio obtained a letter from the principal of Eric Hamber Secondary, claiming his staff was also looking into the incident.
“If students are confirmed to be involved, school-level actions will reflect our focus on safety and respectful behaviour,” said Principal Jason Lauzon
The exact motive of the attack is unknown, but VPD Sgt. Steve Addison said, “I have come to the understanding that during the game, there was some tension that arose between the two schools” during a “high-stakes game with playoff implications.”
