Quebec’s 2026-2027 budget will be tabled on March 18

Finance Minister Eric Girard will table Quebec’s 2026-2027 budget on March 18, before the election of the person who will succeed François Legault as head of government.

The next leader of the Coalition Avenir Québec, who will become de facto premier, will be chosen on April 12 by the CAQ members.

Girard believes, however, that presenting the budget before March 31 “ensures the continuity of public services and provides the necessary predictability to citizens, businesses and government partners in a context of great uncertainty.”

The Finance Minister assures that the two candidates for the CAQ leadership, Christine Fréchette and Bernard Drainville, were consulted during the process.

For his final budget before the general elections scheduled for next October, Girard promises a “sober and targeted” document.

He will propose “targeted measures to address the priorities of Quebecers,” while maintaining “responsible management” of public finances.

“Our government’s 2026-2027 budget will provide adequate funding for government missions and infrastructure investments. The continued improvement of public finances and the return to a balanced budget remain at the heart of our priorities,” Girard emphasized in a statement released Friday morning.

This will be the eighth budget presented by Eric Girard.
