Genie the black bear debut out of hibernation postponed at Montreal’s Ecomuseum Zoo

Spring will have to wait a little longer, as Genie the black bear’s expected emergence from hibernation at the Ecomuseum Zoo has been postponed.

The zoo had anticipated Genie to wake up Tuesday morning for her first meal of the season, but that awakening has now been delayed to a later day.

Officials say she did not show any further signs this morning that she was ready to come out of her den.

Her emergence is considered a popular sign of spring, as she often steps out into her snowy enclosure to explore and feed.

Genie has been hibernating since November. After months of hibernation, Genie will gradually regain her strength and will only be active for a few hours each day.

Located in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, the Ecomuseum Zoo is dedicated to preserving Quebec wildlife and is home to species from across the St. Lawrence Valley.
