The RCMP says it is investigating after one person died and another was injured in a house fire in Sooke Sunday.
Officers were called to the home shortly before 5:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a structure fire at a single-family home.
“One person was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Mounties said.
“A second person was transported to hospital with serious injuries and remains in care.”
Police say the blaze doesn’t appear to have been criminal in nature.
The Sooke RCMP says it is working with the BC Coroners Service and the Sooke Fire Department to investigate the cause.
“Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the family, friends, and loved ones of the person who lost their life in this tragic incident,” said spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano.
“This is a difficult and heartbreaking situation, and we recognize the impact it has on everyone affected.”
