Former Quebec boxer Alex Hilton dead at 61

Former boxer Alex Hilton has died at the age of 61, his brother announced on his Facebook page Tuesday.

“Words cannot describe the shock and sadness we all feel following the loss of our beloved brother and son, Alex Stewart Hilton, a man of great kindness and rare sincerity. He passed away peacefully in his sleep today at the age of 61. He was the best son, brother, and friend I ever had and he will be sorely missed. Love you, brother,” Jimmy Hilton wrote.

During his boxing career, Alex Hilton quickly made his mark, winning the vacant Canadian middleweight title at the age of 18 against Ralph Hollett in December 1983.

He subsequently lost the title in January 1985 after failing to meet the deadline for arranging a title defence.

Hilton had several run-ins with the law throughout his life, particularly during the 1980s.
