The stal̕əw̓asəm or Riverview Bridge was temporarily closed to southbound traffic Friday due to a fire on the Surrey end. One lane has since reopened.
The BC Ministry of Transportation said both Royal Avenue and McBride Boulevard in New Westminster were also closed.
“It is anticipated the roads and the bridge will be closed for several hours,” said a Drive BC post to social media.
But, in an update around noon, DriveBC said first responders had “knocked the fire down,” and the bridge’s left lane had reopened.
Drivers can take the Port Mann Bridge or the Queensborough Bridge as detours.
The Surrey Fire Service confirms it is responding.
