In a story that sounds like a lot like the plot of a popular ’90s sitcom, the Richmond Public Library (RPL) says two books have been returned decades after the due date.
Fortunately for the borrower of Teachings of Tibetan Yoga and The Diamond Sutra & the Sutra of Hui-Neng, the library won’t be charging any late fees.
When the books were taken out — 23 years ago — the RPL charged five cents per day for books returned past their due dates.
That means the late books would have racked up $3,358 in fees.
“23 years overdue. Two books. A cross-country comeback from Toronto (thanks Canada Post!),” the library posted on social media.
All kidding aside, the RPL says fines are capped at $15.
“Proof that it’s never too late to return your library books,” it said.
