Man arrested after violent assaults on Cambie Bridge

Police say a man is in custody after two alleged stranger attacks on Vancouver’s Cambie Street Bridge Saturday morning.

The Vancouver Police Department says an officer was on duty on the bridge shortly before 11 a.m. when he saw the man “acting erratically.”

The man reportedly punched a jogger and attempted to assault a woman and her young child when the officer activated his emergency lights and sirens.

Police say a chase ensued, and the man was arrested near the intersection of West 2nd Avenue and Yukon Street.

The BC Prosecution Service has since charged a 32-year-old North Vancouver resident with two counts of assault, one count of uttering threats, and one count of resisting an officer.

The VPD says he remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
