Hydro-Québec technologists’ union announce strike on May 14th

One of the major unions at Hydro-Québec has just issued a strike notice for May 14 at midnight.

This is the union that represents the 2700 technologists, a local branch of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) affiliated with the FTQ.

The strike will take the form of a refusal to work overtime.

The dispute concerns the expected flexibility of workers, as well as the use of subcontracting. Negotiations have been ongoing for over two years.

The parties are subject to the provisions of the Labour Code regarding essential services. Should a strike be called, the Administrative Labour Tribunal would therefore have to determine whether the essential services offered are sufficient to avoid harming public health and safety.
