Police watchdog looks for witnesses to New West Police arrest

The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is looking for witnesses to an arrest in New Westminster on April 26.

New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) were called to Dickenson Street, near Elliot Street, for a report of a man breaking into cars.

Officers arrived and located the reported man.

Officers also deployed a police service dog in aid of arresting the man.

The man suffered injuries during the interaction.

He was taken to hospital and assessed.

The IIO was informed of the incident and started an investigation.
