Musical love letter to mother: Montreal singer-songwriter Marco Calliari releases La Cascata in video

A tribute, a musical love letter to his mother. This is how Montreal singer and songwriter Marco Calliari describes La Cascata, a track from his 2025 album Purple Fear. A music video version was released in time for Mother’s Day.

Calliari said he wrote the piece during the pandemic.

“She was living [through] a sickness, a very intense sickness called syndrome corticobasal, which is degenerative,” Calliari recalled. “So we saw my mom really lose all signs of life in one sense, but slowly, slowly, slowly, I don’t know if it’s harder than just to leave in one snap.”

“My mom was always there sharing stories and un bel piatto di pasta (a nice plate of pasta).”

Directed by Chrystina Pelletier, the music video, filmed partially before the death of Calliari’s mother in 2022, captures touching and intimate scenes between Maria Franca Pagliarulo Calliari and her granddaughter, Milane.

“It was very hard to watch, actually, at first, and it took a little time, a couple of years after, for really now putting it out there,” said Calliari.

A video showcasing the power of family bonds and memories that transcend generations. Something that is very dear to Calliari, who didn’t miss any opportunity to share stories about his family and ancestors, as well as the deep love for his mother, who has been, since the beginning of his career, his biggest fan and supporter.

“She was always the first one up on her feet to go in front of the stage and dance, and just getting people to dance on my songs,” said Calliari.

With a message to others for Mother’s Day, he says, “Take care of your moms.” Before starting to cry, saying, “Take care of your moms, all the time.”
