3 teens arrested after climbing construction crane: Port Moody police

Police arrested three teenagers suspected of trespassing on a Port Moody construction site and climbing a tower crane Thursday night.

The Port Moody Police Department (PMPD) says officers were called to the “fully fenced” site on St Johns Street near Elgin Street around 11 p.m., where they claim to have seen the teens in the act.

“They descended the tower crane, and they were taken into custody without further incident,” Const. Sam Zacharias told 1130 NewsRadio.

He says the trio was released to their respective parents on “undertakings with conditions.”

The PMPD is reportedly considering recommending break-and-enter and/or mischief charges against them.

He says investigators aren’t yet sure how the teens got into the site, but motion sensors and site security detected them right away.

“If you try to perform one of these stunts, we are going to get called. You will be arrested, and there could be legal consequences,” said Zacharias.

He also warned of the risk of climbing a tall structure in the dark without fall protection.

“It’s just super dangerous.”
