Montreal police (SPVM) say that the coroner’s office has confirmed that the body found washed up on the river bank Thursday in Pierrefonds was that of Hassoun Choui, the teen who fell through the ice in March.

“The individual is Mr. Hassoun Choui, who had been missing since March 26 and was unfortunately recovered from the water by SPVM teams,” police said.

On Thursday morning, SPVM received a 911 call at around 10:35 a.m. reporting the presence of a body at the water’s edge behind a house near Gouin West and Saint-Jean Boulevards in Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough.

In March, two teens fell through the ice into the river near Jacques-Bizard Boulevard in L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève, west of where the body was found Thursday. While one of the teens was rescued, a search for an 18-year-old man was suspended after three days.

SPVM had handed off investigation to the coroner’s office to determine the person’s identity and how they died, without identifying the individual.
