B.C. police watchdog looking for witnesses to an incident near Joyce SkyTrain Station

The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) says it is looking for witnesses as it investigates an incident at a Vancouver SkyTrain station on Wednesday.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police were called to Joyce SkyTrain Station shortly before 8 p.m. after reports of a man with a weapon who was uttering threats near a business.

The man ran into the station, where he was met by transit police, and “an interaction occurred.”

“During the incident, police used less lethal force options,” IIO said.

“The [man] attempted to leave the scene via the track area before falling to the ground below, after which he was taken into custody.”

The man was taken to hospital so his injuries could be assessed.

The IIO is the civilian oversight agency that is called in after any police-related incidents that result in death or serious injury, whether or not there are any allegations of wrongdoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.
