A woman is in stable condition after being stabbed near Cabot Square on Tuesday evening, according to Montreal police (SPVM).
Authorities say several 911 calls were made around 6:30 p.m. reporting an injured person near the intersection of Atwater Ave. and Sainte-Catherine Street West in the Ville-Marie borough.
When officers arrived, the victim had already been transported to hospital by paramedics.
According to preliminary information, a verbal altercation between the victim and another woman escalated before the victim was stabbed in the upper body with a sharp object, SPVM spokesperson Johany Charland said.
A 26-year-old woman was arrested near the scene shortly after the incident. She remains in custody and is expected to appear in court Wednesday.
SPVM established a security perimeter as investigators gathered evidence and met with witnesses.
The investigation is ongoing.
