A police operation is underway to arrest a 57-year-old man who barricaded himself inside an apartment after allegedly stabbing and critically injuring a woman in Montreal’s Sud-Ouest borough Saturday morning.
According to Montreal police (SPVM), a 911 call around 9 a.m. reporting that a woman was injured in an apartment on Elgin Terrace, near St-Martin Street.
Upon arrival, officers found a 44-year-old woman with stabbing wounds to her upper body. She was taken to hospital in critical condition.
According to initial information, the woman was allegedly stabbed by the suspect with a sharp object after a conflict between them escalated, said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.
“Following the stabbing, the woman went and took refuge at a neighbour’s (home), where she was met by officers,” Brabant added.
As of 11 a.m., the man had barricaded himself inside the apartment.
A security perimeter was established and some neighbours were evacuated during a police operation to arrest him.
