Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after two vehicles were damaged in a suspected arson attack in Montreal’s Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough early Sunday morning.
Police say they received multiple 911 calls around 12:35 a.m. reporting a vehicle on fire on Nicola-Leblanc Avenue near Rita-Levi-Montalcini Avenue.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found fire crews were working to bring two vehicles engulfed in flames under control. One of the vehicles was a sedan and another a pick-up truck.
SPVM spokesperson Johany Charland said that both the vehicles sustained major damages. No injuries were reported.
“The presence of potentially flammable materials at the scene suggests that the fire was of criminal nature,” Charland said.
According to initial information, a suspect reportedly approached the vehicles and set them on fire and then fled the scene.
The vehicles were towed for forensic examination. The investigation has been transferred to SPVM’s Arson Unit and is ongoing.
No arrests have been made.
