Coquitlam RCMP are investigating alleged “mischief” to the Terry Fox statue at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre on Wilson Avenue in Port Coquitlam.
Police say that an unidentified substance appears to have been poured onto the statue, coating part of the head and chest.
The incident took place on June 12 between midnight and 7 a.m.
“Terry Fox’s courage, determination, and selflessness have inspired generations of Canadians,” says Sgt. Adriana O’Malley, Coquitlam RCMP Media Relations Officer.
“As a Port Coquitlam resident, his legacy remains deeply connected to our community, and this statue stands as a tribute to his remarkable contributions to cancer research and his enduring impact on people across Canada and around the world. Terry is a national hero, and the damage caused to this statue is both upsetting and disrespectful to the legacy he created.”
The investigation is active and ongoing.
Coquitlam RCMP ask that anyone with information regarding the mischief contact them at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2026-15377.
