Surrey police investigate shooting, arrest one man

One man has been arrested after a shooting in Surrey early Sunday morning.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says that officers were called out shortly after 12:30 a.m. to reports of a shooting outside a residence on 75 Avenue east of the intersection of 144A Street.

Upon arrival, officers found a man who had been shot while in his vehicle outside the residence.

“Officers applied emergency medical aid until BCEHS paramedics arrived,” Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said in a written statement.

“The victim was transported to hospital with reportedly serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.”

Shortly after, other SPS officers, who happened to be in the area, were able to locate a “suspect vehicle.”

“One person, an adult male, was arrested without incident. The man remains in SPS custody as the investigation continues and charges have not yet been sworn,” Houghton added.

The Major Crime Unit has launched an investigation into the incident.

Investigators say that the shooting is believed to be targeted and not related to extortion.

Witnesses and people with CCTV or dashcam footage are asked to contact police at 604-599-0502.
