Pedestrian who was walking in the middle of the street, in the evening, struck to death in Plessisville

A pedestrian who was walking in the middle of the street, late Friday night, could not escape death in Plessisville, in the Centre-du-Québec region.

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police officers were called, at around 10:00 p.m., to Route 116 where the pedestrian was hit by a vehicle.

“A vehicle traveling on Route 116 hit a pedestrian who was walking on the yellow line in the middle of the road. The 60-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the hospital,” said Sergeant Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the SQ.

The identity of the victim has not been released and the circumstances that led to this collision were unclear at the beginning of the investigation. Alcohol does not seem to be the cause, according to initial information.

A perimeter has been erected to protect the collision scene while investigators work on site.

Route 116 was reopened to traffic around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The investigation by the Sûreté du Québec is continuing.
