The BC RCMP says it has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) regarding a fatal motorcycle crash on Sunday along the Sea to Sky Highway.
According to the IIO BC, the motorcyclist, who was a woman, died in a crash that occurred around 5:30 p.m. near Porteau Cove.
Squamish RCMP and BC Highway Patrol say that an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 99 around the time of the crash.
In a written statement on Monday, BC RCMP says the officer saw “two motorcyclists who were reportedly speeding and driving erratically.”
“The officer left their position along the highway and moments later located one of the motorcyclists who was involved in a collision with a recreational vehicle,” the RCMP added.
“The female motorcyclist was declared deceased at the scene.”

Simultaneously, BC Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into what led to the crash.
Witnesses or people with dashcam footage of the highway from Britannia Beach to the crash site are urged to contact police at 604-526-9744.
The incident had the highway closed for hours between Horseshoe Bay and Squamish overnight.
On social media, DriveBC says that the road reopened at 2 a.m. on Monday morning.
