The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two individuals involved in a bear-spray attack in South Surrey on May 31st.
According to SPS, a teenage boy was targeted while sitting on a bench outside a business near Croydon Drive and 157 Street around 4 p.m. An unknown youth approached him, allegedly spraying him with bear spray while another individual recorded the incident on a cell phone.
The perpetrator who sprayed the bear spray is described as approximately 5’4” tall, with shaggy brown hair, wearing a light hoodie, a red shirt, black shorts, black shoes, and carrying a cross-body bag. There is a possibility that he was seen being pushed in a blue shopping cart.
The individual who captured the incident on video is around 5’6” tall, with short black curly hair, dressed in a black t-shirt with white designs, black pants featuring large white designs, white shoes, and also carrying a cross-body bag. His right hand appeared to be wrapped in medical tape.
The victim, who stands at 5’6” tall with black curly hair, was wearing a black hoodie, light blue jeans, and black clog-style shoes at the time of the assault.
In a statement, SPS emphasized the importance of the victim’s description in aiding potential witnesses to recall the event. They urge anyone with information about the assault or the identity of the suspects to reach out to the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502, quoting file number 2026-54451 (SP), or to make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
